Oxford United vs. Macclesfield Town

Once the Nurnberg match ended, I switched over to Oxford’s match against Macclesfield Town. Per usual, I just sat and stared at the match tracker. I’m glad that with following Nurnberg I missed most of the first half as the match tracker didn’t have much. It really just showed five shots for Oxford and seven for Macclesfield. The other only other notable even was a yellow card picked up by Oxford defender Damian Batt in the 38th minute. I of course say that it was a boring first half, but I’m sure I would say otherwise if I had live audio or video. Sigh.

Luckily the second half was more exciting. Manager Wilder finally subbed in Robbie Hall for Oxford right at the start. Maybe he was giving him a bit of a rest, but R. Hall has been scoring and saving many a game lately for the Yellows so he should always be a starter in my opinion. Plus he’s only on the team for a short loan. In terms of this half, he nearly made an immediate impact. Not even a minute on the pitch for a full minute, he had a nice shot hit the bar. Although his time would come, Macclesfield Town would be first to score. A nice header in the 60th minute got past Clarke and Oxford had to play catch-up.

After that goal though, nothing really seemed to threaten Macclesfield’s goal enough that made me think that Oxford would come back. The match tracker commentary just had a lot of back and forth action. With that said, my interest in the match started to wane and I was doing other things on my computer. Luckily I came back to follow the final moments on match tracker. At the top of the tracker, the match just kept going. The commentary never told how many minutes of stoppage time were added so I just kept waiting for the final whistle. At the top of the tracker the game time read “90+1”, then “90+2,” and then “90+3.” To my amazement at the same time the “90+4” flashed, the note of “Goal. Oxford United. Robert Hall. The game is now tied at 1-1” also appeared. At the death, Robbie Hall scored another crucial one for the Yellows.

A goal in stoppage time is always great to see. Sure it was only to tie the game and not to win, but I, along with all the fans in Oxfordshire as well I’m sure, will definitely take it. One point for a draw is always better than not getting any points for a loss. A win would have given them more wiggle room, but still with the draw Oxford managed to move up into third in the table. It wasn’t a win but a good result did come of it. Of course I wouldn’t mind if the team didn’t leave things for the last minute though next time…
